Sati performed in UP

See this article in outlook where they have filled a FIR report againt 203 people.
I feel this is a great joke, it does not mean that I support sati it is just the way the goverment tries to say that it is doing something about these kind of blind beleifs of people.
Instead of filing a FIR I would preferd somekind of NGO involvement in trying to understand where the problem is.
FIR on 200 odd people don't you think this taking it a bit far and I am not sure what the hoverment is going to achieve by filing this. Another dusty file in the police station.

Early morning flights

Flight is at 10:00 hrs can I call that early morning ? Still I need to get up at 05:30 hrs to get the cabby at 06:30 hrs. You may think one hour to get ready !!!  But you know the body does not get adjusted if you wake up 3 hrs earlier than usual and all your regular early morning activities will take extra time now !
Anyways got my alarm going off at 05:30 hrs but ended up waking at 06:15 hrs and the cabby was there 15 minutes later and I was rushing to get out and got into the cab at 07:00 hrs and there I am going to London gatwick to board my flight.
More updates as the travel progresses.

Review: Waiting...

Bad language ... Bad language Bad language I have never heard so much of the 4 letter word in a 2 hour period. The movie was was still hilarious and a good time pass, the movie is all about the happenings in a restaurant and how they treat customers who mess with the waiters and don’t treat them well. Another movie which may not release in India.

Review: The Book The Movie

A Special screening of The Da Vinci Code was done at my local cinema at 00:05 Hrs last night today morning how should I say it, anyways the movie was thrilling and as expected the director has done justice to the book by Dan Brown. (Good that I went for the special screening the movie is choke-booked for the weekend). I would still vote any day for the book as I felt the book was more gripping then the movie. Read the book then see the movie, you will understand the movie better. If it is a long time since you read that book (like me) see the movie and read it again I am going to do that soon.

Now in India the censors have released it with an A certificate, I felt that was bad considering the fact that there is no bad language or ugly scenes in the movie. I think the A rating is more to pacify the Christian population in India.  As somebody mentioned whatever rating the censor board gives you are going to be getting the DVD out soon and whoever wants to watch it can watch it.

The Christian movement in coming together to voice against this movie, I feel has generated tremendous amount of publicity for this movie  and yes the movie has strong reference to the papacy and a lot of other things Christian. Though the book had more reference to all these I felt the movie has rubbed it in a bit more since it is more visual. I feel this should be a topic for a healthy debate and something that should not be banned.

Your Official Mail ID

What should you use it for apart from official mails?

We all use it for personal mails and in companies where you dont get access to your personal mailbox it is your only line of contact to the outside world, but what kind of personal mails do you use it for?

Yesterday I got this mail from one of my friend where she has tried to collect some donation for a charitable educational trust they have started.

I would never use my official mail to promote these since you may end up with people associating your company with these charitable trusts - your company WILL NEVER EVER like this.

Also never use your Official Mail ID to send mails that have these “send to 20 people and you will get lucky” these are called chain mails and this really pisses corporates off.

Remember that no mail you send via your official mail id is private, the company as access to all your mails and if you need to send private stuff use your personal mail id which is a bit safer.

Act wisely it is better to be safe than sorry.

PS: Anybody wants a GMAIL id post a comment I have a few left which I can give out.

Another New Tool From Google

Here we go another tool from Google. Google Notebook – Lets you clip and collect information as you browse. My notebook is public and you can see it here.

Give it a shot and see how it works out for you J

Update: This is the Official Google Blog talk on this.

My IBM Laptop

has finally crashed. Okay I was not expecting this. I am having T43 of course supplied by my company. A very nice laptop and I fell in love with it the minute I started using it. A very versatile laptop with lot of add-ons. I have read a lot of reviews and when the company came up with the a policy of standardizing the laptops and assigning this as the standard build laptop I immediately ordered one and have to thank my managers for approving one.

Coming back to the subject, there is no background, it just crashed on me. The hard-disk started a spinning spree and once I had it shut down it refused to restart.

Quite impressed with the array of great tools IBM offer to recover your files and for this one reason I would recommend IBM anytime (Happy that I even got an IBM for my Sister). I did manage to recover 97% of my files and the rest failed with CRC errors. Have given the laptop to my company to replace the HDD and rebuild it for me. Will give you updates on that soon.

On a different note heard that defragmenting your HDD often causes your HDD to fail. Is this true or should it be added to the Myth List. J Leave your comments J

Review: PRIME

Another good movie for the weekend, the movie is about a 23 Year old guy getting a crush on a 37 Year old Uma Thurman. To make things complicated the Shrink of Uma Thurman is the mother of the 23 Year and it was hilarious all out, the effect was equivalent to watching a Crazy Mohan flick.

bbfc have given a 12A rating for this movie, taken into account that there are a few steamy scenes in the movie our censors would have either liberally applied the scissors to the movie making it at least 30 Mnts short or the least given it a “A” rating.

Pirated Books

This Post looks like the author is supporting the Pirated Books Sale in Chennai. I am 100% sure he is not. His comment says otherwise.

I did comment on that Post and here is the comment that i made. Please read the post before you read the below lines, it will make more sense.

Do you think it is right to let these shops sell pirated books. Think the amount of money the publisher is loosing when you start buying books from thee sleazy shops.

Hands down support the Second hand books and those shops should not be removed but IMHO the pirated books should need to be dealt with 100%.

You also see these shops around Spencer Plaza considering that it is a big time tourist spot - at least for the hordes of foreigners who seem to be coming to Chennai - it gives a very bad outlook for India and the publishing industry.

If you look at the Amount that you pay if you buy a book in its original edition i.e. in UK and the amount you pay if you purchase in India is already a pittance and we should not further squeeze those publishers and authors.

IMHO i feel that we should get a law against these pirated books sellers they are a big business and it is not very easy to print the books and who ever prints it does pour a good amount of investment into this and am sure he does get a good return on Investment as he does not have to pay all those royalties :)

Does She Not Look Cute

Before you let your imaginations run wild. It is my Sisters daughter that i am talking about.

Jannani @ Chennai

Her name is Janani and this photo was one of the few i took when I was at Chennai. She is quite a naughty and possessive person and she is becoming unmanageable these days.

My Mom is having a hard time keeping her entertained.

Zoundry Blog Editing Tool

Found this nice Blog Editing upload tool. This is the first post i am writing from this tool and hope it comes out well. It offers some sleek features like preview of the Blog by applying the template and all. Need to play with it a bit more to understand the features it has got to offer.

Reservation for what

I have a reservation against people asking for reservation for a class of people in colleges and schools. This is like giving preferential treatment to a section of the society and I am not sure what they did to get that preferential treatment.

If somebody was fighting for reservations for our Army/Navy/Air force & their family I am happy to stand by that and will raise my voice to give that reservation but to people who have not done anything different to any other citizen of this country I feel we need to voice our opinion. Any person irrespective of caste or creed should be given an equal opportunity to study and excel and no single person should be given better treatment than another person.

Why am I talking about this? Read this article here.

Okay this is a Poll for you to vote. Cast your vote - Will post the results in a weeks time.

Kudos to Kiruba & Team

Kudos to Kiruba Shankar and team who have  successfully completed The Pedalathon Expedition from Bangalore to Chennai in under two days covering a total distance of 332 Kms.

Read full story here @ Kiruba.com – Various other Blogs on this pedalathon.

Running against Time

Whew what a start to the week. With just a few hours of sleep everyday trying to complete my assignment and project work for the MS course I am exhausted.

5 Weeks down and another 3 to go before I complete this module. The week in our class runs from Thursday to Wednesday of next week and this was the last day for my submission. My client taking up lot of my time and then JV being here over the weekend did not help a lot to get myself sorted and I was running against time to submit the project and assignment and I finally now hit the send key and I am done for the week.

With the results of the election round the corner it is going to be nail biting finale to the battle. As AMMA aptly put it this may be the last battle of the DMK and AIADMK either one wins that would be the final nail to the coffin for the other. Maybe not at the party level but at the individual level one would be forced to exit the political scene after this election.

SunTV is doing a great coverage of the poll counting and I am looking forward to catching a few bits before I leave to the office.

Fingerprinting your photos

According to this website your digital camera can be fingerprinted i.e. they can match photos to a particular camera.

“A new technique matches a digital image to the camera that snapped it, scientists say, just like matching a bullet to the gun that fired it. Flaws in a digital image, caused by dust on the optics or natural variation between pixels, can be used to say whether a particular camera took a particular image.”

Hope this technology would erase from the face of this earth the child photographic morons.

Bedtime reading

I always read something before I go to bed. Some oracle book or these days MS-IT book is an instant sleeping pill. This has become sort of an habit and it is very difficult to sleep without reading for at least 15 minutes every night. As I am thumbing through my Nikon D50 book during my train and bus journeys I am also reading this as my bed time book.

I have just read 15 pages last night so have to read more before I can post a review.

Nikon D50 Digital Field Guide – by David D. Busch

Highly recommended if you are planning to buy/have a D50 Camera. As the name suggests this is a book for the D50 camera and is not a generi guide to digital photography.

Review: m:i:III

Have not watched the first two parts and was a bit hesitant to watch this as I thought it may have some reference to the other parts which will make it into muddle and I have to watch it like I watched LOR-II without seeing part I. Surprise, the movie did not have any reference to the previous part and it was a good time pass.

It is a regular Hollywood flick with lot of action scenes; bombs, rockets, cap guns and all the Diwali stuff rolled into one big ball. The movie does have a nicely grained comedy track and it was good to have a few laughs in between the shootings.

Have never seen the cinema so packed usually it is like 40-50 people in a 350 people capacity hall but this time it was choke packed and I had grab a seat and then get my nachos and diet coke.

A good time pass and would recommend it.

The Election Give Away

KriubaKiruba has appropriately written about this, wanted to write about it but he has given a two sentence comment on exactly what I had in mind and I did not feel like reiterating about this.

How much of this give away is coming out of the Parties/Individuals monies !!!!

Taman Negara 30 August 2003

I have this Google Screensaver which displays images from your photo folders and this started displaying images from our Trip to Taman Negara in Malaysia in 2003. So many people have gone out of orbit from that trip and to think that we had such a great time then, when I see those photos it brings back funny memories J

Here are some photos for you to enjoy … J

The Kaatu Aaru

This place is right inside central Malaysia and it is supposedly one of the oldest rain forests in the world. I am not sure where we got off but I have memories of taking a worn down leaky bus to this place you see above and from there it is a 1 Hour boat ride to a camp area where they had given us accommodation. This river is quite unpredictable as it floods within minutes like any other forest river. (That is a literal translation for Kaatu Aaru)

Sleeping Beauty

That is Pradeep there. He is sleeping, as usual it astounds me how he can do that, the bus/car/boat moves and he is fast asleep J The last I heard from him he is still at Oracle in Bangalore and he is now married J

Erumamadu

We had a good laugh when we woke Pradeep up by telling him there are elephants in the water (above). He had a SLR camera and he was fumbling to quickly take photos until he realized that we have pulled his leg and they are Malaysian Buffalos J

Pradeep Legs being pulled.

The best part was the chinese behind pradeep who also thought they were elephants since I “almost” shouted J

The Other Two

At the Canopy Walk, L-R Arun and Pradeep. Arun the mystery man. He was in India in January and I tried to reach him but was not able to catch up with him. Great person to move with.

The Team

The Negara Team !!! I am not able believe my eyes when I see myself I have changed so much !!!

Canopy Walks

This is the canopy walk. This over 5-15 Meters from ground level and is an absolute wonderful experience.

Bukit Terisek

Walked up this mountain(Ok it is a mountain for me) 344M above sea level. That is Arun’s doing and I was drained. See me in that photo !!!

Bats in Caves

Went for a Cave exploration. Managed to get in but the other side was too narrow for me and Arun to get out bloody pradeep squeezed is way out but we finally managed to get out with a few scrapes at the wrong places J The Bats you see there are all over this cave. Though they keep flying around you they never hit you. Freaking scary creatures J

The Ultra Modern Tribals

We had gone on this boat ride on that forest river and they took as to this tribal people village on the banks, surprise surprise these tribals use Huggies nappies and Levis Jeans. A full setup but the boat ride was good and also the village was sort of nice J

I don’t have any photos of this but we went on this night safari with this guide and whenever I see the SBI card advert on the TV I think about this safari. (Sorry you need to see this advert to appreciate this joke.)

Sridhar Maran and Pradeep

Though he did not make it to the trip (Don’t remember why?) here is Maran (Center) one of my close friends and we worked in a Semiconductors company in the same team, me in Singapore and he in Malaysia. We had a whale of a time when we met. The Person on the Left is Sridhar and he was also very close but we seldom get in touch these days. He was working with me in Singapore.

Adding cream to the DMK election campaign.

Just a minute ago I saw the DMK leader being carried away by the police with a background music score of AutographGnyabagam Varudhae”. What a touch to the campaign at the fag end. They are showing all the hedious events of Tamilnadu on that advert.

Slinging mud has become a way of life for these people at the cost of others K

On a different Autograph in my opinion was one of the best movies of 2003. Anybody who has seen that movie would surely have had a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

BTW-This is my half century post.

My Absence

I would mainly attribute my absence to my work and the MS-IT program. I am up-to my ears with work and I am sitting and working till late in the night and I am totally exhausted. I have got more photos to upload and I am still working on that as well. You should see more photos over this weekend.

Guys/Gals – Thanks for the Wishes. Cheers.
